Letters Sent to the Commissioner of Indian Affairs, 1899-1914. The Leech Lake Agency was abolished in 1922, and the Indians were assigned to the new Consolidated Chippewa Agency.Ĭorrespondence, 1899-1921. In 1906, a separate Red Lake Agency was established. The town established there named Oningum. The agency headquarters was on the Leech Lake Reservation near Walker, Minnesota. There was a separate Leech Lake Agency between 18, but there are no records of this agency among the records of the Bureau of Indian Affairs now in the National Archives. These Indians had formerly been under the White Earth Agency. The Leech Lake Agency was established in 1899, for the Leech Lake Pillager, Cass and Winibigoshish Pillager, White Oak Point Mississippi, and Red Lake bands of Chippewa living on reservations in Minnesota.
